North Lanarkshire Council seeking provider for full-fibre rollout to Social Housing

North Lanarkshire Council logo

North Lanarkshire Council is seeking expressions of interest from “suitably qualified and experienced” broadband infrastructure providers who can provide “1Gbps-capable” full fibre broadband services to its social housing estate.

The opportunity is valued at £40 million and expects to cover around 36,000 social housing properties across North Lanarkshire.

“This programme forms a core element of the Council’s Digital North Lanarkshire ambitions, which aim to reduce digital exclusion, enhance independent living, and ensure tenants have improved access to high‑quality digital services and greater control over how they interact with council systems.”

North Lanarkshire Council Notice

This notice allows the Council to engage with potential suppliers to define the formal tender documents expected this summer.

Any providers interested in the project are invited to submit their responses by end of April.

  1. The problem with this sort of thing is that people are then limited to what ever the council decide to go with. A few years ago, someone I know lived in a housing association flat in Cambridge, it had fibre broadband, which for then was good. But it was not cheap and the tenent was fixed with that, they were not allowed to get anything else, even FTTC to get the price down.

This is also the same problem some people have when building companies do the same thing
