Introduction to Plusnet Broadband

Plusnet is a broadband and phone provider from Yorkshire that built its name on being straightforward, affordable and friendly. They started in the late 90s and have kept a down-to-earth approach ever since, with customer service that feels a bit more personal than some of the big players. Their pink logo and “That’ll do” slogan have become familiar across the UK, but what people tend to remember most is the no-nonsense pricing and the effort to keep things simple. Plusnet broadband offers a range of deals, including full fibre, unlimited fibre, and broadband-only options, providing high speeds and reliability.

With Plusnet, customers can enjoy safe online browsing and streaming, thanks to Plusnet Protect powered by Norton and Safeguard parental controls. The provider has won numerous awards, including Uswitch Best Value for Money Broadband Provider, Recommended Broadband Provider of the Year, and Broadband Genie Best Provider (three times). Plusnet’s fibre connection ensures fast and reliable internet, making it ideal for gaming, downloading, and streaming. Customers can check monthly costs and available deals using Plusnet’s postcode checker.

Types of Broadband Deals

Plusnet have good broadband deals with their fibre-based package offering speeds up to 145Mbps on average and their part-fibre service giving speeds up to 74Mbps on average.

Plusnet’s broadband deals cover a good spread of speeds and prices, starting from a basic 74 Mbps package and going right up to 900 Mbps full fibre.

At the top, the Full Fibre 900 plan offers some of the fastest home broadband speeds available, with a monthly price of £36.99. Both 12 and 24-month contracts are available, and the first year cost is £443.88. For heavy users, big households or anyone streaming in 4K across multiple devices, this package should be more than enough, though it’s not the cheapest in its category compared with some rivals.

The Full Fibre 500 option cuts the speed in half to 500 Mbps but also trims the monthly cost to £31.99, which works out at £383.88 over the first year. This sits in a sweet spot for many families, offering more than enough capacity for work, gaming and streaming at a price that feels fair.

Further down the range, Full Fibre 300 gives 300 Mbps for £29.99 a month. At £359.88 for the first year, it’s close in price to the 500 Mbps plan, so it may not be the best value unless you’re sure you won’t need the extra speed.

For lighter users, the Full Fibre 145 deal delivers 145 Mbps at £26.99 a month, which comes to £323.88 across the first year. It’s more than enough for smaller households or people who just want reliable internet without paying for headroom they won’t use.

Plusnet also offers a fibre-to-the-cabinet package at 78 Mbps. On a 24 month contract it’s £25.99 a month, or £29.99 if you prefer a shorter 12 month option. While slower than full fibre, it may be the only option for those outside full fibre coverage, and it should still handle day-to-day use comfortably.

Finally, the Full Fibre 74 plan comes in at £24.99 a month, working out at £299.88 over the first year. It’s the cheapest deal on the list and a straightforward choice for individuals or smaller households who don’t have demanding internet habits.

Overall, Plusnet’s range is simple and competitively priced, with no hidden extras in the first year costs shown. The best value looks to be around the 500 Mbps level, though the 74 and 145 Mbps packages will appeal to anyone who wants to keep costs low without sacrificing reliability.

How good is Plusnet’s customer service?

Plusnet has a customer service team based in Sheffield, which is run in-house separately from BT. They are fairly keen to promote this, through television advertising. The Plusnet website offers a range of resources and guides to help customers resolve common issues. Plusnet customer service is usually regarded fairly well and amongst the highest of the larger broadband providers. Use our ISP comparison tool to take a look at how they rank compared to other broadband providers. Customers can contact Plusnet’s support team via phone, email, or chat, making it easy to get help when needed.

What is the latest Plusnet router?

Plusnet offers the Plusnet Hub Two currently which is a Wi-Fi 5 router. This won’t offer the fastest Wi-Fi speeds if you have the latest devices, but it does have four wired ethernet ports you can use to connect any nearby devices like games consoles or TVs.

Plusnet social tariff

Plusnet do not offer a social tariff themselves, but instead, customers would be able to switch to BT’s Home Essentials package. You would need to talk to Plusnet customer service to arrange a switch.

Plusnet Mobile

Plusnet used to offer some mobile bundles but these have now been retired. Plusnet Perks offer some loyalty rewards including some deals on UK EE mobile SIMs. If you had a Plusnet mobile number with their old service, it cannot be transferred (ported) via Perks to an EE SIM now; you’ll need to take a new number.
