2024 has got off to an incredible start for the full-fibre roll-outs with almost 2 whole points of coverage added to the UK total in just 31 days, and that is after lots of bad news headlines about the bubble bursting in the full-fibre market. The big unknown is how long we will be able to keep finding full-fibre at this speed, both in terms of network operators building and commissioning and the destruction of keyboards from over use.
If the number of overlapping roll-outs had been minimised, we could have seen a 3-point jump in full-fibre coverage in the last four and a bit weeks. Alas, some can see us mapping 60,000 or so premises where full-fibre has recently arrived and that only produces a 25,000 premises jump in the overall UK full-fibre statistics.
The next big milestone is the UK 85% Gigabit coverage and we are currently predicting hitting that in September 2024. Even if you want to ignore the impact of Virgin Media DOCSIS 3.1, the 85% full-fibre milestone is predicted to be hit in July 2027.
