August 2022 update on Openreach full fibre roll-out

The last month was distinctly one of two halves, the first half was on track to give a total of around just 200,000 premises found in the month but once back from holiday and working at full speed again we made for lost time up and have added some 317,787 premises to the total set of postcodes where the majority of premises can get Openreach FTTP since 12th July 2022.

The total count is currently 7,919,824 premises, so still shy of the 8 million declared by Openreach on 19th July but we are on track to break through the 8 million mark in a week or two and giving us a lag of 4 to 5 weeks. The weekly build rate averages out at 71,758 premises a week but this masks the big jump we have had in the last week of around 130,000 premises.

The table of property age versus percentage change of having access to Openreach FTTP needs to be looked at with the knowledge that across the UK the average works out at 25.12%. So those living in properties with a postcode issued before 1996 are behind the UK average and the newer your home the better your chances of Openreach FTTP. We believe some of this is down to the lack of accurate records on the older properties i.e. where you have good records it is easier to plan and work out if the build will fall within the cost parameters for the roll-out.
