Zzoomm says it has passed 100,000 premises with its FTTP network

Keeping up with verification of footprint sizes is proving interesting this week, unless I was to skip sleeping for the week I will be playing catch-up for a while.

Zzoomm has announced that its network is available to 100,000 homes and businesses across 29 locations. 27 communities saw the service launch to them in 2022 reflecting the rapid expansion for the full fibre provider.

In just over 12 months we have launched in 27 new communities and I’m delighted that our fantastic Zzoommers are living up to their name and have reached this impressive milestone to deliver access to our fabulous, gigafast Full Fibre broadband network to so many homes and businesses.

We’re excited to connect more residents who will be able to access some of the fastest broadband speeds anywhere in the world! Residents can order a Full Fibre service up to 2000Mbps with next day installation, subject to availability.

Take up of our services is accelerating; we have taken 1,500+ new orders in January 2023 and we look forward to connecting these customers to their Zzoomm service soon.

Matthew Hare, Chief Executive Zzoomm

The footprint we have on record is much lower at 66,000 premises but was overdue a check at locations where Zzoomm have said service is available. We will endeavour to slice our time into more segments so we can spend some time verifying the footprint for our maps over the next couple of weeks. We suspect that the rush of footprint achievements is probably driven by end-of-year reports landing in the email inbox of various executives once their own teams have crunched the additions to their network.

  1. How does Think broadband get the data for their map? If you get it via speed tests on your site then that is not going to very accurate, since most people don’t use think broadband or even know what it is.

Zzoomm have covered a fair bit of Hereford now, I think they still have a little bit to go, but they are getting on with it, but it seems a lot of people are not interested in it, not just Zzoomm, but also openreach Full fibre.

  2. Wasn’t aware you knew everyone in Hereford but most folks are under contract and a pretty small proportion change their supplier each year. Of those that do the vast majority move to full fibre if it’s available whether via Openreach or an altnet.

The Think Broadband data is based on a tad more than speed tests and work on it is discussed regularly. Speaks volumes you’ve nearly 17,000 posts on the site forum and are asking that question. One way traffic with whatever silage is floating thru your mind at the time going out and nothing going in.

I can’t believe you would think the map is simply generated from Users doing a few speed tests on TBB. The work Andrew puts into the data for the maps is truly astonishing.

  4. @Dixinormous, I have lived in Hereford for over 50 years, so I know a few people here. I thought I put about people under contract, but it seems I did not 🙂

I thought that the data would be based on more than speed tests, that is why I asked, is there any need for the insults? I suppose there is, when you can’t think of anything else to say.

  5. With that level of ignorance no, there isn’t anything else to say.

Perhaps try listening and learning rather than constantly repeating your largely poorly informed, repetitive, narrow-minded opinion. Not a huge surprise you repeat conspiracy theories: you neither know better or have any interest in learning better.

Frankly you’re a small man living in a small world stubbornly refusing to accept there’s a far larger world out there and thinking learning is beneath you. I remember reading you’ve no passport and don’t plan to go abroad. What a surprise.

    Pretty sad really.

  6. For crying out loud, what the hell is wrong with you? I asked a question and get a load of abuse from you is that this site have come to?

We are all small men or women living in a small world, and saying that I refuse to accept there is a larger world out there, shows how much you know about me, which is zero. You are correct about one thing, suppose you have to be correct about something and that I don’t have a current passport and no I am not planning to go abroad again, notice the again part.
Not that has anything to do with you anyway, what is sad is you.

  7. @zyborg47 – Speed tests are only one input into our model which includes various other data sources and a lot of manual work by us. Even if a provider shares coverage data, we still undertake checks (you’d be surprised how many over-project to get better stats!). We never flag an area solely for speed tests.. it’s more a flag to go look at the area in more detail.

    Entirely fair question 🙂

  8. Thanks Seb,

I can imagine that many do over-project, not a surprise 🙂

Hereford is looking pretty covered, with some added on Thursday, but also some added in other parts of the UK.

Thursday was so busy adding stuff in suspected areas for around seven providers that the daily look at speed tests is postponed to a Friday evening activity.

Always happy to get emails pointing me to areas I’ve missed out, with close to 100 networks things are somewhat busier than 3 years ago.

  10. There is a large Zzoomm cabinet close to where I work, just around the corner from the exchange and I have noticed a bit of work being done there, today they were there with a roll of cable, I presume fibre. I thought they had finished doing stuff with that cabinet. Looking at the map, they do seem to have covered a fair bit of the city. I hope they do well and knock Openreach down a few pegs,
