Vodafone At Home customers moving to Plusnet in February 2012
Vodafone's landline calls and broadband service never really featured in the list of innovative or cheapest service, two key factors that appear to drive demand from consumers in the UK. Perhaps it is this lack of numbers and a desire to concentrate on their core mobile business that has led to Vodafone deciding to pass its broadband customers over to Plusnet as of 7th February 2012.
Customers on the broadband, line rental and anytime calls service that costs £25.54 per month should have received an email informing them of the change, and a FAQ is available on the Vodafone website to answer the most common questions.
The key thing for customers is that the service should continue to work as it does now, with no username or passwords to change on the 7th February, and email addresses will continue to function. If you make calls that are outside your call bundle, then do check what the Plusnet prices are, and as part of the move Vodafone At Home customers will receive all existing call features on the landline for free for the first 6 months of service with Plusnet.
Some people may take this change of provider as an opportunity to reassess how much they spend on the landline and broadband, and for those in contract with Vodafone currently once the move takes place they will not be held in a contract with Plusnet, thus a Migration Authorisation Code (MAC) will be available upon request, or alternatively you can cancel your broadband, but do not cancel if you plan to order another broadband service, since cancellation will incur a £25 cessation fee.
The broadband service should continue to work at the same sort of speeds as currently, though will be subject to traffic management, the increase in usage allowance from 40GB to 60GB indicates that people will effectively be moving to Plusnet Extra Broadband with anytime calls and line rental. The traffic management applied to this product is described in Plusnet's own FAQ pages.
If you are affected do check the FAQ, or alternatively people can call 0845 4400 264 and select option 2. Users do have the option of migrating away from Vodafone prior to the 7th February, but due to the fact that Vodafone will effectively be migrating the connection to Plusnet, the deadline for obtaining a MAC and moving independently is the 2nd February 2012. It is important to remember that even if moving to a full LLU provider like TalkTalk or Sky, that you should obtain your MAC, to avoid being charged the £25 cease fee. Full LLU providers often don't ask for the MAC, as the migration process onto that type of product does not use the MAC.
