Back in December 2024 we wrote about Starlink being at capacity in the South East of England including in Greater London meaning broadly speaking no one south of Milton Keynes and east of Oxford was able to get service, with very few exceptions around Dover. Oxford and Cambridge were on the border of where service was freely available.
We have seen a slight improvement in the situation at the edge of the previous boundary with Milton Keynes now able to order services. The map below shows the original waitlist area (slightly darker shade in South East) with the hexagons in lighter colour around the edge showing new availability in the past few days. The very South East corner including Canterbury are now also able to order services as well as Andover on the West side of the zone.

Starlink is undoubtedly technologically impressive… though I do wonder about potential issues regarding a congested low earth orbit and also whether the burning up in the atmosphere of numerous obsolete satellites every year really is harmless.
But more to the point is whether you really want to be buying from a company that’s headed and majority owned by a certain man.
I appreciate for many it’s the only viable, reliable connectivity solution.
Starlink changed the game when it came to widescasle satellite use. Geniuses come in various forms and they have their defects. Obviously it’s up to everyone to decide whether to do business with a company. I don’t see it as the main solution for the majority for a number of technical and commercial reasons, but I’m not in the middle of nowhere.
