KCOM was early to the full fibre game, and now faces an increasing amount of competition and one area some competitors often have done better is offering symmetrical upload speeds.
KCOM now appears to be upgrading or has already upgraded lots of its Lightstream full fibre customers to a more symmetric product, i.e. your upload speed will match your download speed unless on the 900 Mbps download service when it will be capped to 500 Mbps.
An example of a speedtest showcasing the new speeds is this 175 Mbps tier customer who is speedtesting at 173 Mbps download and 179 Mbps upload. Previously their maximum upload speed for this product was 50 Mbps.
We’ve looked at the KCOM product pages and as yet even in areas where people are recording symmetrical speeds the old uploads tiers are showing.
From 20th January 2025, we have increased our upload speeds, so you will receive the same upload speed as your download speed (up to 500 Mbps) to ensure you continue to get the best from your KCOM full fibre broadband service. The new speeds have been automatically applied will be available to you from this date at no extra cost.
