Latest Plusnet Unlimited offer reduces price and contract length
Wednesday 13 November 2013 10:33:46 by Andrew Ferguson

It is a busy time in the broadband deal arena with providers shuffling around to try and line up their offers ahead of the Christmas rush. PlusNet is the latest to publish some new deals, and while the drop in price is not massive, a drop from £2.99 per month to £2.75 per month is still a drop in price. For a good many people the bigger news is that new signups to this deal will only be required to enter a 12 month contract.

  • Unlimited Broadband + Home Phone **£2.75/m for 12 months deal**, now based around a 12 month minimum term contract. Reverts to standard price of £9.99 after the 12 months.
  • Unlimited Broadband + Home Phone Talk Anytime Calls **£7.75/m for 12 months deal**, now based around a 12 month minimum term contract. Standard price of £14.99 per month after the minimum term.
  • Unlimited Fibre + Home Phone **£12.75/m for 4 months offer**, fibre products remain on an 18 month contract. Reverts to standard price of £19.99 per month after the promotion period.

In all the cases above, telephone line rental is payable to PlusNet at £14.50 per month. The offers run until 18th December 2013.

All well and good from PN but is their a price drop for potential customers not in the low cost area?

Yep nothing for existing customers.

I think if you phoned Plusnet they would be more than happy to move you onto one of these as you are basically signing up to a new contract.

(They'd be mad if they said no - they just want those Direct Debits coming in!)

Pity they are pushing more deals like that at a time when their support is heavily over-stretched and will be until they get their new Leeds support centre open!

If you are on a true Market 1 exchange ie BT only,no other wholesale suppliers -then don't think PN will offer existing customers a much better position if you are on one of the unbundled Market 1 exchanges with TalkTalk,Sky LLU etc available -you then have a decent negotiating position with PN's Customer Option team!!!

Could do with actually supporting existing customers and answering their phones / responding to online problems before selling their increasingly shonky service to new sign ups.

Not sure I'd say it is "increasingly shonky" - I am happily using Plus.Net on a daily basis (and relations, friends, and clients, too, and not a one has commented/ complained about service to me).

Yes, can understand CS may be stretched, but in the light of competition dropping prices, can understand why PN feels the need, and since the deal is dependent on also taking phone service, it does help the "bottom line" and stability of income for a while to come.

Tried reporting a fault recently? Eventually CS will respond with a canned response which doesn't fit the original report. three times out of three so far. I am regretting paying my line rental in advance now meaning I am stuck for another year. Of course the chances are the rest are just as bad or worse but that's hardly a recommendation.

No. I won't pay more than my broadband itself's cost for a phone line I won't ever, ever use.
