Orange fixed line broadband customers who use the Orange Bright Box may have received or will receive shortly a firmware update to their router. After all Orange and T-Mobile customers spotted their mobile signal network change to EE, a similar change is happening to the ADSL2+ customers.
The firmware update is deployed via the TR069 remote management protocol, and will apply EE branding to the routers web interface, and also enable new functionality that will allow the Bright Box to switch into an Ethernet router mode for use with the Openreach fibre services that EE is selling.
The upgrade normally takes place between 4am and 6am, so should not interfere with Internet activity for the majority of people, and for those that power down everything at night, a second wave of updates will follow to update these devices during the day in a few weeks.
It already provides an Ethernet router mode.
It would seem that the main change is cosmetic/branding. Though it is reported it also provides a Mobile broadband service.
