Another community is showing how superfast broadband can be rolled out, this time it is the community of Kinmuck a few miles North West of Aberdeen. They have installed a fixed wireless service that uses a mast locally to distribute the signal to small antenna fixed to the outside of each property.
The backhaul for the network is a microwave link into Aberdeen running at 100 Mbps. A timeline for the project is on their blog and provides a useful guide for others thinking of taking this approach. A key factor for the project appears to have been gaining funding from the Big Lottery Fund.
