Kettering MP shown what is involved in £17m full fibre roll-out

Kettering started to appear on our maps for live CityFibre coverage in December 2022 and the footprint continues to expand and CityFibre has now taken the local MP Philip Hollobone on a tour of what is involved.

As is normal with FTTP tours they involve the usual into to fibre optics but importantly also highlight how excavation work is carried out and what a reinstated bit of pavement should look like. This sounds obvious stuff but as local councillors and the MP for an area are often an early port of call for complaints about roadworks being shown how it should be done is important.

I’m pleased that CityFibre is investing in a vital infrastructure upgrade in Kettering, which in the long term, has the potential to bring a great number of benefits to businesses and residents in the town. “It was fantastic to see first-hand the progress being made on the delivery of this project, and to learn about the work which goes into delivering infrastructure of this scale.

Philip Hollobone, MP for Kettering

We have spotted some 2,090 premises in Kettering where the service is available via retailers such as Vodafone, but this is drawfed by the 7,070 Openreach has passed with its FTTP roll-out. These roll-outs combined with others such as Gigaclear mean the constituency of around 48,000 premises has FTTP availability of 24.13%. Fingers crossed by the end of the week we’ll have found more CityFibre and the map image in this article will be out of date by the weekend.

We’re extremely proud of our roll out in Kettering, and it has been a pleasure to show Mr. Hollobone the progress so far in bringing full fibre connectivity to the town.

It’s brilliant to have his support, along with the support of the local community, as we work to make Kettering one of the best-connected towns in the world. Thousands of homes are already able to connect to the network and we look forward to bringing this step change in connectivity to the wider area as soon as possible.

James Cushing, Area Manager for Kettering at CityFibre

Investment in the town by CityFibre is expected to be around £17 million which if the roll-out costs are low at £300/property could all the constituency covered, but our crystal ball reveals if we work on the basis of a £500/property passed CityFibre will eventually build out to 34,000 premises in Kettering which will be the vast bulk of the premises that comprise the built up areas of Kettering and Burton Latimer.
