Fibrus is rolling out to both urban and rural areas in Northern Ireland and Portstewart on the northern coast is the latest urban area where we found coverage of the full fibre network with pricing starting at £19.95/m in the urban areas.
A lot of Portstewart already had access to Openreach FTTP and now a lot of people have a choice of two different FTTP networks. The Fibrus roll-out in the area appears to be largely confined to the urban area of Portstewart but with the Project Stratum contract this may well change in the near future i.e. the small town roll-outs will form the central hub for the currently sub 30 Mbps rural properties.
Northern Ireland now has 67.97% FTTP coverage and some 11.91% of premises have a choice of two or more FTTP networks. Once you also take into account the DOCSIS 3.1 network from Virgin Media in the older coax areas the Gigabit coverage comes in at 74.2% of premises. The cable network does overlap with a lot of the FTTP networks, some 34.32% of premises have cable plus one or more FTTP network – this is largely down to places like Belfast where this overlap increases to 74.33%.
