The latest urban area where CityFibre has declared its main rollout as complete is Dundee where the rollout has been declared as over 58,000 premises.
The wholesale network is available via a range of retailers including Vodafone, TalkTalk, IDNet and Zen and the household name Sky should be joining later this year.
We’re delighted to announce the completion of our full-fibre primary build in Dundee. This rollout marks an exciting step for the city’s connectivity, which will benefit from faster, more reliable and cheaper broadband connectivity. With the UK’s most advanced digital infrastructure now beneath its streets, Dundee residents can enjoy seamless streaming and significant productivity benefits.
Paul Wakefield, Senior Partnership Manager at CityFibre
The residents of Dundee will benefit immensely from access to full fibre connectivity, helping strengthen the city’s digital infrastructure. I appreciate that there will have been disruption for residents and know CityFibre are grateful for their patience during the build. I look forward to seeing the community benefit from this critical infrastructure upgrade.
Shona Robison, MSP for Dundee City East and Cabinet secretary for finance and local government
The CityFibre footprint is currently the largest full fibre service in Dundee with our map showing postcodes covering some 59,000 premises and this is 72% of the City. The Openreach full fibre footprint is some way behind as around 23,000 premises but the older Virgin Media O2 coax/fibre hybrid network has a wider Gigabit footprint at around 86% of premises covered and with Project Mustang that will eventually be convered to an XGS-PON FTTP footprint.
A quick sort of the councils and regions of the UK puts Dundee at position 134 out of 418 in terms of full fibre footprint currently with Havering and Bolton as immediate neighbours and the City of Kingston Upon Hull still in the number spot at 99% full fibre availability.
