The option for iPhone users with an O2 mobile service to add O2 Satellite access to keep them connected via messaging apps when outside the reach of the O2 mobile network or Wi-Fi options goes live on Thursday 28th May 2026. The service utilises the Starlink low earth orbit clusters that circle the planet.
“Earlier this year, we made history with the switch on of O2 Satellite. Expanding the service to iPhone users is a major step forward in making this new, groundbreaking technology accessible to more customers. Whether you’re hiking, travelling or in a remote part of the UK, O2 Satellite helps ensure you can stay connected when you need it most.”
Chris Bournes, Commercial Director, at Virgin Media O2
To access the O2 Satellite service you need to add the £3 a month bolt-on to your mobile plan, but for Ultimate Plan customers it is included in the package, meaning at the time of the launch tens of thousands of customers will benefit.
The list of applications that are currently compatible with the service is:
- AccuWeather
- AllTrails
- Apple Compass
- Apple Fitness
- Apple Maps
- Apple Messages
- Apple Music
- Apple Weather
- BBC Weather
