10% take-up in Penistone for Zzoomm might seem low, but remember this is a small town where the provider only appeared ready for service in March 2024 and therefore things are still very early in the take-up journey.
We’re excited to see such a significant number of Penistone residents joining Zzoomm in just the few weeks since completing the majority of the build. It’s evident that the residents and businesses of Penistone recognize the advantages of gigafast broadband and are embracing our investment in cutting-edge Full Fibre technology.
We’re thrilled to foster innovation by providing access to our gigafast Full Fibre network to homes and businesses in Penistone. At Zzoomm, we firmly believe in ensuring that everyone has access to dependable, forward-thinking broadband services.
Chris Collinson, Chief Commercial Officer at Zzoomm
Part of the reason why take-up may be off to flying start may be that Zzoomm is the first full-fibre player in the area, and with no existing old cable footprint the town will have busy households keen to switch for both extra speed and higher reliability. Pricing wise Zzoom starts at £29.95/m for its 150 Mbps service (currently also a £100 Amazon voucher as a sign-up bonus) so is undercutting existing services if people are out of contract and will be price matching the entry level FTTC services. The other option is their 500 Mbps at £24.95/m for 12 months and no gift card, after 12 months the price rises to by £10 if you stay on the 500 Mbps service.
As well as showing their service is popular even though its only been available for a few weeks, by highlighting that there are live customers across an area it addresses the criticism usually slung at all the full-fibre roll-outs irrespective of which network is involved. This is that they declare premises passed when they are unable to provide service to the bulk of their footprint. These accusations are not just from those looking to stir controvesy but even some within the alt-net industry. Given a big enough budget and appropriate powers we’d love to employ a large team to travel the country and physically verify what is installed in all the pavement chambers across the UK.
Update Midday: The footprint we’ve mapped in Penistone is around 2,300 premises, this is a third of the exchange area, but that area includes places like Hoylandswaine and other outlying villages.
Nice, well done Zzoomm,
Zzoomm must be standing proud in Penistone….!
