Summary

Zen Internet is one of the UK’s more trusted independent broadband providers. For over 30 years they have focused on delivering reliable service, strong technical support and clean pricing. If you are fed up with rising costs, poor support or slow lines then Zen often comes up as the alternative worth checking out. Zenwas one of the earlier smaller operators but has grown to be one of the smaller "big" players. They have five years of being a Which? Recommend Broadband provider and are a Certified B-Corp. They provide both Openreach-based products as well as various altnets.

Additional Comments

The offer is straightforward. Zen delivers fibre broadband across the UK via major networks like Openreach and CityFibre, along with smaller altnets Trooli and Freedom Fibre. Where full‑fibre (FTTP) is available they have broadband packages that give strong speeds and decent upload rates, which is useful for streaming, working from home or heavy usage households. Many customers report that once the fibre broadband service is live the connection feels stable and performs well. Their award‑winning status in several reviews shows that the company ticks the boxes for value, speed and service in many cases.

Where Zen really stands out is support, excellent customer service and transparency. Reviewers often mention that calls are answered quickly by UK‑based staff who know what they are doing. Issues are handled without a lot of back and forth and installations tend to be clean. For people who have had frustrating experiences with larger ISPs, that personal touch makes a difference. The fact that Zen keeps its pricing clear and avoids hidden extras is another plus.

That said, it is not flawless. Coverage remains the key issue. Although Zen Internet works across much of the UK, the exact speed and availability at your address may differ. Also, even if a fibre line comes to your door you still need a solid internal setup. If your router is old, Wi‑Fi signal is weak or you have a large house with thick walls, you might not see the full benefit. Some users report that in rarer fault situations support could be slower than ideal and that communication when build work drags on might not feel as smooth as expected.

Price is another area to check carefully. Zen’s plans tend to cost a little more than some budget providers because you are paying for stronger support and service. If you prioritise lowest cost above everything else then you might find cheaper alternatives. It is wise to check contract length, renewal pricing, what is included and what happens if you move or need to change provider. Zen however do offer a Contract Price Promise - this means that there are no incontract price rises, and you will pay the same amount for the full length of your contract term, with no unexpected price rises.

Still recieving great service and good value for money from Zen internet. No nasty CPI/RPI price hikes during your contract term Unlike BT,Talktalk,Sky,Plusnet and other big name brands hiking prices mid term. The service i have recieved over the past 18 months has been exceptional and customer services prompt to sort out any issue. Zen has recently updated its online website and customer portal. The new site and portal needed a refresh as it looked dated and clunky. 1 small issue that I have requested multiple times is for the ability to upgrde or request a downgrade to broadband packages online rather than having to contact sales department via phone. Also missing is the ability to create or update Direct debit details. Apart from these features being entirely missing, this dose not affect the overall quality of broadband service recieved as that hqs been solid and consistent throughout. My current ZEN Internet package: Full Fibre 100 18 month contract £38.99pcm. Contract renewal: Aug 2023.

I have had several service service providers over a number if years, the last before Zen being talk talk, which in my opinion is one of the worst there is and why I decided to change to Zen. Since joining Zen, initially on fttc and now fftp I can honestly say that the little extra in monthly cost is worth it. For that extra few pounds you get an unrivalled service, 100% solid and customer service which has very knowledgeable agents who understand what you are saying, understand the problems you may have and the answer to fix them, unlike many isp's who immediately blame the customers equipment. So if you want a reliable service you need to use Zen, the very best of the best in the UK. Remember some are cheaper and that usually means less reliable.

Since switching to Zen from talk talk, firstly to fttc I noticed a marked increase in reliability. Then I switched to Zen' full fibre 900 Mb full fibre product and have again had no problems,no disconnections or any other problems. With Zen, the customer service is second to none, this was talk ranks major failing. I'm happy to recommend Zen for all, their personnel's knowledge if superior to all other providers I've been with and all Zen's agents can understand me, and I'm from Scotland so have a very broad doric accent. To sum up, if you want a trouble free internet experience then Zen is for you, the may not be the cheapest, but you get what you pay for and Zen put their customers first.

My download speeds are as contracted. 300+ up and 50+ down. I have only had to contact them once; had excellent service. Never had to contact them otherwise. There are very good short videos. I used to connect voip.

Not the strong performer they used to be. In particular, speeds and support appear to have fallen. I'm in the process of moving after being a customer for 13 years.

I have been a customer with Zen Internet since December 2020. Only had 2 outages with our Full fibre service. I have regarded my broadband package 3 times in 2 yeara and have consistently received the advertised package speeds for 100 300 and 900. Currently I'm on the 100 Mbps download /40Mbps upload package without digital voice. For £32.99 per a month. Zen have been fantastic with no nasty mid term price hikes like the other big name broadband providers with their CPI /RPI +3.9% each year. Zen have been faultless and very helpful in resolving any issues with my Fritzbox 7530. I am very pleased so far and in no hurry to move away to another provider anytime soon. The Zen internet customer portal is a bit clunky and looking outdated but the all the information is there. One feature that is missing is the ability to upgrade /downgrade your services online rather than calling Customer service which they can get a little busy and wait times extended at certain times of the day. The new My Zen app is good, But It does lack the option to make payment for bills via credit or debit card / apple /Google pay as you have to log into the main website customer portal via a computer. This is by no chance a deal breaker for me, Just a missing feature request for a more seamless and smoother customer experience and transaction.

Recently squirrels ate into our down line and, requested through Zen, Openreach repaired it very quickly. Zen then gave us a credit, for our trouble, which was almost a full month's charges! Extraordinary service and absolutely brilliant!

Broadband on FTTP has been stable, reliable, and exactly what it should be. More expensive than some competitors on the market, but possibly worth it for a no hassle unlimited-data service. Also when I signed up I got the lifetime price guarantee (i.e. they won't increase the price of my broadband for as long as I am with them), which might turn out to be a good thing in the current financial climate of cost-of-living increases (it seems that new customers no longer get this though). The only slight downside (which meant giving them 4* instead of 5*), is that when I wanted to move the phone landline from the copper pair (£14.99/month, no inclusive calls) to their digital voice service (£7/month with some inclusive calls) I couldn't do it unless I used their provided router directly connected to the incoming internet line (even having it in bridge mode wouldn't work). As I have my own router (and while the one they provide is ok, I have opted to invest in a higher performance one), this was not possible for me. I ended up switching my landline phone number to AAISP for £1.20/month with no inclusive calls (they don't care what router you use, they just give you the relevant SIP details to use whatever VoIP equipment you wish to use). The porting of my landline number to the new provider went off without a hitch, my FTTP broadband was not affected, Zen's communication was just as you would expect, and I received no hassle from them about switching, and no obstacles. Zen are a great ISP. Keep up the good work and excellent customer service.

Generally first class service but this month had a problem with the phone. Dealt with three different people by email before it was fixed. Kept asking me to do tests even though I told them the fault was with the service provider(s).
