Zen Internet

Summary

Zen Internet is one of the UK’s more trusted independent broadband providers. For over 30 years they have focused on delivering reliable service, strong technical support and clean pricing. If you are fed up with rising costs, poor support or slow lines then Zen often comes up as the alternative worth checking out. Zenwas one of the earlier smaller operators but has grown to be one of the smaller "big" players. They have five years of being a Which? Recommend Broadband provider and are a Certified B-Corp. They provide both Openreach-based products as well as various altnets.

Additional Comments

The offer is straightforward. Zen delivers fibre broadband across the UK via major networks like Openreach and CityFibre, along with smaller altnets Trooli and Freedom Fibre. Where full‑fibre (FTTP) is available they have broadband packages that give strong speeds and decent upload rates, which is useful for streaming, working from home or heavy usage households. Many customers report that once the fibre broadband service is live the connection feels stable and performs well. Their award‑winning status in several reviews shows that the company ticks the boxes for value, speed and service in many cases.

Where Zen really stands out is support, excellent customer service and transparency. Reviewers often mention that calls are answered quickly by UK‑based staff who know what they are doing. Issues are handled without a lot of back and forth and installations tend to be clean. For people who have had frustrating experiences with larger ISPs, that personal touch makes a difference. The fact that Zen keeps its pricing clear and avoids hidden extras is another plus.

That said, it is not flawless. Coverage remains the key issue. Although Zen Internet works across much of the UK, the exact speed and availability at your address may differ. Also, even if a fibre line comes to your door you still need a solid internal setup. If your router is old, Wi‑Fi signal is weak or you have a large house with thick walls, you might not see the full benefit. Some users report that in rarer fault situations support could be slower than ideal and that communication when build work drags on might not feel as smooth as expected.

Price is another area to check carefully. Zen’s plans tend to cost a little more than some budget providers because you are paying for stronger support and service. If you prioritise lowest cost above everything else then you might find cheaper alternatives. It is wise to check contract length, renewal pricing, what is included and what happens if you move or need to change provider. Zen however do offer a Contract Price Promise - this means that there are no incontract price rises, and you will pay the same amount for the full length of your contract term, with no unexpected price rises.

Great Service. Recently switched from BT Business Broadband to Zen as Fibre to the property became available to us. After reading a lot of positive reviews about zen on trust pilot, we decided to jump ship and sign up with zen for their 900 mbps package data only, as BT Business do not support 900mbps yet. zen is a bit pricy but you get what you pay for. We had a bit of a wait for 3 weeks for installation to take place. Once installed it has been faultless and running smoothly no outages and performing 100% of the time 960mbps download 120mbps upload. very happy with their service. rating Zen 5 stars.

On the few occasions I have had problems with my FttP connection, the support has been excellent, and the fault was either Openreach or my internal cabling. I'm not a fan of the Fritzbox though. Anyhow I needed a Covid-induced upgrade to my WiFi and my Netgear Orbi mesh works brilliantly in an old house with very thick walls, this works very well with Zen, though their techs tend to distrust anything that isn't a Fritzbox.

Having tried providers who used call centres in India to attempt to answer technical matters with very little success, I moved to Zen about fifteen years ago. They have well qualified engineers in their technical department, who really cure problems at source. I have the greatets regard for the whole company and unreservedly recommend them for those who want good, reliable broadband.

I changed to Zen after the frustrations of talking to India and technicians of Level 1 standard working from a computer script. Problems went on for ever and rarely were solved. I have been with Zen for over ten years. Occasionally I have had problems with BT provided wiring and have called Zen technical help. Their engineers are living in the UK and really know how to solve problems. I now get a consistent 35 to 39 MB/sec and do not need to call them. How is that for service and an excellent product?

Moved to Zen because have heard really good things......... Around 20th May I noticed that we had been moved to an infill cabinet and that indicated speeds of between 70-80Mbps, so raised a query with Zen as current speeds were 3-4Mbps(as per the old cabinet). After some initial investigations was told I needed a line reprovision, after prompting this eventually went ahead, I was then however left with no internet. After further consultations and buying extra data for my phone, I was told that I was being put onto adsl as a temporary measure. It took a couple of weeks from being cut off to reinstate this. I am still on this temporary line and have had to reinstate my old router as the supplied Fritz!Box has proved too unstable and has caused frequent disconnects. So from slow fibre to no fibre (told fibre connection due to be reconnected this week...) and very little communication unless instigated by myself- Verdict Unimpressed.
