Summary

TalkTalk is a name most people in the UK will recognise when it comes to fibre broadband. It offers a range that goes from basic fibre connection through to full fibre where available, and it positions itself firmly at the value end of the market. For a lot of households the appeal is clear. You get a well known brand, straightforward pricing, a reliable connection, and enough speed for streaming, browsing, video calls and general day to day use without spending a fortune.

Additional Comments

When everything lines up, TalkTalk broadband provides a solid fibre broadband connection. Many customers get stable speeds that suit everyday needs, and the service is simple to set up in most homes. Because TalkTalk uses multiple underlying networks including Openreach and several full fibre partners, you may find good availability even in places where other providers are limited. For casual streaming, schoolwork, online shopping and TV catch up, it usually does the job.

That said, there are a few things worth keeping in mind. The biggest potential issue is customer service. Reviews often mention long wait times, support that can feel hit and miss and issues taking longer than expected to sort. TalkTalk’s ratings for reliability and support tend to sit below some of the other major providers. If you are happy with a lower cost option and only need the basics to run smoothly most of the time, it can work well enough. If you work from home, rely heavily on your connection or you cannot afford interruptions, you may want to compare other options first.

It is also sensible to check what happens when your contract ends. TalkTalk broadband is known for promoting attractive starter prices, but once your initial deal finishes the cost can rise. Taking a moment to understand your renewal rate and any price promise is a good idea. Take a look at our best broadband deals page for discounts. As always, the speed you sign up for refers to the line into your home. What you actually experience depends on Wi-Fi strength, the layout of your property and the quality of your equipment. Larger houses or those with thick walls may need stronger internal Wi-Fi setups to get the best from the broadband connection.

TalkTalk broadband suits people who want a simple broadband option at a fair price and do not need the highest level of support. It offers good value on the right deal and can handle the normal mix of streaming, browsing and work tasks for most homes. If you prefer a provider with stronger satisfaction scores or guaranteed support response times, then it is worth exploring alternatives. But for many households looking for a budget friendly fibre broadband service without too much fuss, TalkTalk broadband remains a sensible choice.

Generally a good broadband service, but there are rare drop outs which might not be due to TalkTalk. The problem is that I still do not know what caused the drop out so TalkTalk are not keeping their clients informed.

Since moving to FTTP the reliability and support has been really great. A huge step up.

I've been with TalkTalk for many years and, with the exception of calling them on the phone, I've been very happy with their service. Aside from having to renegotiate my contract every 12-18 months, the broadband has been very reliable. Unfortunately, they now lose a star all round as the Internet connection has failed a few times recently, and they refused to give me free anytime calls as part of the package. I'll definitely be shopping around within 90 days of my contract ending next December.

It is proving very difficult to get any sense from their overseas technical staff when one has a fault. I have now been waiting for 9 days to get my landline speech line fixed. All I get are repeated messages saying the problem has been resolved but it hasn't. And even though I insist this problem remains they disagree and only when I insisted they actually try to ring my number did they have to admit they couldn't get through and the fault was indeed still there. But there is still a delay of several days before they can do anything about it. Customer service is nil. If only I could speak to someone in the UK who speaks good English and could appreciate a circumstance that was a little unusual that needed a bit more than a standard response. When my contract is up then I must seriously consider changing provider.

Excellent download speeds. Recently had their high speed offering installed. Everything went to plan. Very pleased

Have been with TT ADSL now Fibre, for a number of years after moving from BT IDSL. Service is based on FTTC. Speeds vary. Often very slow download speed which is usually when the weather is bad. Customer service is usually good (when I have had to escalate). Always starts off well then we get to the "you are not using our router" bit and then help is difficult other than saying "the speeds we see are good for your line". Have had to call out BTOR (via TT) several times over the years who always state that the cables from the cabinet are rotting away in the ground. Aluminium sheathed cables where the outer jacket is now brittle and breaking down. Would love to change, but the reality is it's the last several hundred years of cable which limits performance and that would be the same for whichever ISP I was with. Roll on FTTP (if it ever happens here).

My Talk Talk fibre seems to get slower and slower Now getting 15Mbs I believe they promise 18 and say I should get 27Mbs

This is not a review of TalkTalk because, after years of poor service and even poorer customer service, I transferred to PlusNet some months ago.
