TalkTalk

Summary

TalkTalk is a name most people in the UK will recognise when it comes to fibre broadband. It offers a range that goes from basic fibre connection through to full fibre where available, and it positions itself firmly at the value end of the market. For a lot of households the appeal is clear. You get a well known brand, straightforward pricing, a reliable connection, and enough speed for streaming, browsing, video calls and general day to day use without spending a fortune.

Additional Comments

When everything lines up, TalkTalk broadband provides a solid fibre broadband connection. Many customers get stable speeds that suit everyday needs, and the service is simple to set up in most homes. Because TalkTalk uses multiple underlying networks including Openreach and several full fibre partners, you may find good availability even in places where other providers are limited. For casual streaming, schoolwork, online shopping and TV catch up, it usually does the job.

That said, there are a few things worth keeping in mind. The biggest potential issue is customer service. Reviews often mention long wait times, support that can feel hit and miss and issues taking longer than expected to sort. TalkTalk’s ratings for reliability and support tend to sit below some of the other major providers. If you are happy with a lower cost option and only need the basics to run smoothly most of the time, it can work well enough. If you work from home, rely heavily on your connection or you cannot afford interruptions, you may want to compare other options first.

It is also sensible to check what happens when your contract ends. TalkTalk broadband is known for promoting attractive starter prices, but once your initial deal finishes the cost can rise. Taking a moment to understand your renewal rate and any price promise is a good idea. Take a look at our best broadband deals page for discounts. As always, the speed you sign up for refers to the line into your home. What you actually experience depends on Wi-Fi strength, the layout of your property and the quality of your equipment. Larger houses or those with thick walls may need stronger internal Wi-Fi setups to get the best from the broadband connection.

TalkTalk broadband suits people who want a simple broadband option at a fair price and do not need the highest level of support. It offers good value on the right deal and can handle the normal mix of streaming, browsing and work tasks for most homes. If you prefer a provider with stronger satisfaction scores or guaranteed support response times, then it is worth exploring alternatives. But for many households looking for a budget friendly fibre broadband service without too much fuss, TalkTalk broadband remains a sensible choice.

Recently I phoned to renew my contract -- what a nightmare!!I spoke on three different occasions to three different people- the first never did carry out her offer to a phone back to verify the offer I was considering. The second put in a complaint to the complaints manager for me who was supposed to phone within 48hrs - he never phoned. The 3rd person then proved to me that the first two had actually lied to me as to what they could offer & also the amount of increase in April was going to be -- of course it was by phone so no actual proof of all this. Their "customer service" is atrocious - it is purely a big sales scam.I don't necessarily blame the people manning the phones- it is Talk Talk's attitude to how they treat loyal customers.

My broadband provider is Utility Warehouse, with whom I am very pleased. Good to have my broadband cost reduced instead of the prices rises going on everywhere else

Connection drops off for a couple of minutes 2 or 3 times a week for a few minutes at a time without warning. Have re-booted router and tried other fixes but nothing. Then it recovers on it's own, so it is something to do with an external fault, not internal, e.g. landline, engineering, etc. Don't bother with the support line because they are working from a script and miss the real problem altogether. This is probably the worst customers service support ever. I will be changing my service provider ASAP, but I'm stuck with the contract until next year. Don't believe the TalkTalk adverts they are a con...!!

TalkTalk is throttling my broadband
Anonymous 20 Jan 2022 (reviewed 4 years ago)
When I was on their 40M Fibre package I used to get up to 45M. I added their 65M boost and got up to 56M. They discontinued that product and when I renewed I went onto their Fibre 67 product at a higher cost. Now I am lucky to get any more than 44M on this faster product! Smoke and mirrors. The biggest problem with TalkTalk has always been reliability and still is. Even at these nominal high speeds we still get buffering when streaming. Not to mention their appauling customer service, a waste of time. I put up with them because they are still the best value, but that may change very soon. Two rival companies have laid FTTP infrastructure in our road recently.

I have been a customer of Talktalk for many years. In all that time they have never let me down. At renewal time I am always offered the best option going. Any queries I have about my contract are speedily resolved and always with a friendly staff member. I recommend this company to everyone.Though not in a fast fibre area Talktalk provide me with the fastest speed available.
