After a quiet period where Virgin Media O2 did not announce any milestone coverage from nexfibre we have the first one of 2026. Strathaven south of Glasgow is the latest town to get a shout out, though we believe VMO2 is also including nearby Stonehouse in the footprint.
The nexfibre XGS-PON rollout bringing a symmetric full fibre speed options from VMO2 is said to be available to more than 5,000 households in Strathaven. Our records indicate Strathaven has a total of around 4,600 premises so clearly the nexfibre footprint being counted is a larger area, if we add next door Stonehouse the potential footprint rises to 7,500 premises.
The footprint on our maps is showing a total of around 1,500 premises in Strathaven and Stonehouse as of this morning, but we can see extra addresses added since we last looked at the two towns so the map will update on Tuesday. We can find places in Strathaven without nexfibre still, further supporting the theory that VMO2 is also including Stonehouse in its total.
“5,000 more homes in Strathaven can now feel the benefit of Virgin Media’s services – with packages that include everything from next generation multigigabit broadband to easy-to-use TV streaming and entertainment services.
These ultrareliable full fibre to the home broadband connections come with high speeds, providing total peace of mind that whatever you’re doing online, you’ll never be slowed down by your service.“
Julie Agnew, Managing Director of Fixed Network Expansion, Virgin Media O2
For many residents the nexfibre rollout will be the second or third full fibre network option available to them, as there is a mixture of Trooli and Openreach full fibre already in Strathaven and Stonehouse. Therefore while mapping the service availability is important of another network the impact on full fibre broadband statistics is likely to be close to zero.
Update Tuesday 27th January 2026: In between all the other data changes on Monday we gave Strathaven and Stonehouse a quick look for more nexfibre and we’ve updated our maps and so far have found Virgin Media O2 Gigabit full fibre available in 3,220 premises across the two towns. So it looks reasonable that with another couple of hours of focus on the area we will reach a 5,000 premises total.
Update Thursday 29th January 2026: Footprint mapped is now at 4,807 premises and still a few hundred premises to check so likely hit 5,000 over the next few days.
