Freedom Fibre was awarded a BDUK Project Gigabit contract over two years ago for rolling out full fibre broadband to 12,000 premises in North Shropshire, but “due to changes in the external market”, they have indicated they cannot fulfil this contract. Of these 2,500 premises have been built, and a further 1,000 will be live in the coming days.
The outstanding 8,500 premises are being removed from the contract, and BDUK is having to look at alternative suppliers who can cover these.
The local MP Helen Morgan is ‘demanding urgent answers‘ according to a news article on the local news outlet Shropshire Live, having had concerns after Freedom Fibre pulled out of the Cheshire contract only three months ago. They were also reassured only recently that there was nothing to be concerned about.
More details on Project Gigabit contracts are available.
West Shropshire generally an issue. Voneo pulled out of another contract and not helped by the border. Exchange areas cross border up and down it.
