Zen Internet

Summary

Zen Internet is one of the UK’s more trusted independent broadband providers. For over 30 years they have focused on delivering reliable service, strong technical support and clean pricing. If you are fed up with rising costs, poor support or slow lines then Zen often comes up as the alternative worth checking out. Zenwas one of the earlier smaller operators but has grown to be one of the smaller "big" players. They have five years of being a Which? Recommend Broadband provider and are a Certified B-Corp. They provide both Openreach-based products as well as various altnets.

Additional Comments

The offer is straightforward. Zen delivers fibre broadband across the UK via major networks like Openreach and CityFibre, along with smaller altnets Trooli and Freedom Fibre. Where full‑fibre (FTTP) is available they have broadband packages that give strong speeds and decent upload rates, which is useful for streaming, working from home or heavy usage households. Many customers report that once the fibre broadband service is live the connection feels stable and performs well. Their award‑winning status in several reviews shows that the company ticks the boxes for value, speed and service in many cases.

Where Zen really stands out is support, excellent customer service and transparency. Reviewers often mention that calls are answered quickly by UK‑based staff who know what they are doing. Issues are handled without a lot of back and forth and installations tend to be clean. For people who have had frustrating experiences with larger ISPs, that personal touch makes a difference. The fact that Zen keeps its pricing clear and avoids hidden extras is another plus.

That said, it is not flawless. Coverage remains the key issue. Although Zen Internet works across much of the UK, the exact speed and availability at your address may differ. Also, even if a fibre line comes to your door you still need a solid internal setup. If your router is old, Wi‑Fi signal is weak or you have a large house with thick walls, you might not see the full benefit. Some users report that in rarer fault situations support could be slower than ideal and that communication when build work drags on might not feel as smooth as expected.

Price is another area to check carefully. Zen’s plans tend to cost a little more than some budget providers because you are paying for stronger support and service. If you prioritise lowest cost above everything else then you might find cheaper alternatives. It is wise to check contract length, renewal pricing, what is included and what happens if you move or need to change provider. Zen however do offer a Contract Price Promise - this means that there are no incontract price rises, and you will pay the same amount for the full length of your contract term, with no unexpected price rises.

The main thing to say about my experience with Zen is that the connection has always been rock solid unless there was a line fault and then they were very good at getting it sorted. On the odd occassion I have had to contact customer service they've been good and resolved the issues. However, I have rarely had to contact support. Speed is not fantastic but this is down to the quality of the line and despite not being the fastest, the connection stability means I seem to have a better experience with things like video calling than people with ostensibly faster connections. Recent changes to their pricing has also made them more comeptitive than they had been previously. You might get boradband cheaper but it's hard to get it better.

Excellent ISP, would recommend them to everyone. Good speeds, pricing, service and help desk, if you actually need to use them!

Their Internet as a fault of Zen is near zero. Customer service is great down to earth and friendly. In the rare instance of a fault they investigate until the issue is solved. I cannot ask for more. I recommend Zen to anyone reading this.

The speeds are as good as you get for ADSL and currently satisfy my needs. I have had no issues for months, maybe even years.

Zen is simply the best broadband provider. When - and that is rare - things go wrong you can get though to someone who can fix it. five stars all round

I have been with Zen for nearly 20 years. Quite simply, they have never let me down and are always ready to go the extra mile for their customers. I can't think of any circumstances that would tempt me to leave them. Thank you Zen.

Five star absolutely superb. Support is second to none. Knowledgeable, even went the extra mile to resolve a TV issue! Providing this quality of service is maintained, I will never change.

Very pleased with Zen. Not the cheapest but rarely any problems, and the very few that arise (mostly my end!) I get to speak to someone who understands and sorts it. I don't have to go through endless idiotic procedures dictated by some idiot that doesn't listen and just follows a script!

Fantastic support from Zen during my recent broadband problems. They have been pro-active in addressing the issues, getting OpenReach engineers scheduled, dealing with the OR engineers questions, monitoring and ensuring everything is working as expected. They have been excellent at communicating what is happening and why, they provide timely follow up calls. I can't fault them. They may not be as cheap as others but you get what you pay for.

After 6 months of waiting to transfer from my previous ISP, Zen finally managed to achieve something. They cut me off. Currently it's a case of who's to blame between between Openreach, BTW & Zen and I'm in the middle relying on a hotspot on my payg mobile for internet access.
