Zen Internet

Summary

Zen Internet is one of the UK’s more trusted independent broadband providers. For over 30 years they have focused on delivering reliable service, strong technical support and clean pricing. If you are fed up with rising costs, poor support or slow lines then Zen often comes up as the alternative worth checking out. Zenwas one of the earlier smaller operators but has grown to be one of the smaller "big" players. They have five years of being a Which? Recommend Broadband provider and are a Certified B-Corp. They provide both Openreach-based products as well as various altnets.

Additional Comments

The offer is straightforward. Zen delivers fibre broadband across the UK via major networks like Openreach and CityFibre, along with smaller altnets Trooli and Freedom Fibre. Where full‑fibre (FTTP) is available they have broadband packages that give strong speeds and decent upload rates, which is useful for streaming, working from home or heavy usage households. Many customers report that once the fibre broadband service is live the connection feels stable and performs well. Their award‑winning status in several reviews shows that the company ticks the boxes for value, speed and service in many cases.

Where Zen really stands out is support, excellent customer service and transparency. Reviewers often mention that calls are answered quickly by UK‑based staff who know what they are doing. Issues are handled without a lot of back and forth and installations tend to be clean. For people who have had frustrating experiences with larger ISPs, that personal touch makes a difference. The fact that Zen keeps its pricing clear and avoids hidden extras is another plus.

That said, it is not flawless. Coverage remains the key issue. Although Zen Internet works across much of the UK, the exact speed and availability at your address may differ. Also, even if a fibre line comes to your door you still need a solid internal setup. If your router is old, Wi‑Fi signal is weak or you have a large house with thick walls, you might not see the full benefit. Some users report that in rarer fault situations support could be slower than ideal and that communication when build work drags on might not feel as smooth as expected.

Price is another area to check carefully. Zen’s plans tend to cost a little more than some budget providers because you are paying for stronger support and service. If you prioritise lowest cost above everything else then you might find cheaper alternatives. It is wise to check contract length, renewal pricing, what is included and what happens if you move or need to change provider. Zen however do offer a Contract Price Promise - this means that there are no incontract price rises, and you will pay the same amount for the full length of your contract term, with no unexpected price rises.

does what it says on the tin rock solid broadband, no throttling, no speed reductions at peak times

Zen Internet will not answer my questions about the FTTC line to my . Through my own efforts two high resistance faults between my home and the DSLAM have been repaired/bypassed. Neither were detected by Zen Internet. The 7530AX router originally supplied has been replaced by a 7530, that is, a less capable one. No explanation has been given. Time and time again my set up of the router has been blamed despite Circet QubeGB and Openreach reporting it is correct with no additional wiring in my home. High latency/packet loss has been reported to Zen Internet but so far ignored.

By far the best internet service provider I've used, always good products at a very competitive price. UK based support should you every need this, which has been very seldom for me. Staff are knowledgeable and helpful. I would not switch to another provider.

On my 4th year now with Zen and I must say they are simply the best. No disconnections in all that time. My only problem is BT Wholesale not upgrading my exchange yet to provide the new faster fttp speeds. I'm still stuck on 1gb max downstream. Zen however have been faultless.

EXCELLENT

They get advertising on reports/reviews on how good they are at customer service, well this is only as good as BT/Open Reach is. It took BT/OR weeks to respond to our loss of BB and Phone resulting in our complete loss of service for 4 weeks.

We've been with Zen for decades and recommend them to our clients... but.. in the last couple of years they seem to be loosing their touch. The tech support is stil great but S&M is, frankly, very poor. No replies to enquires, lost 'threads' in messages which then have to be restarted and even then the end reurlt is increasingly dire. Shame - hopefully just a 'blip' bit IMHO they need to up their game.
