Additional Comments

When everything lines up, TalkTalk broadband provides a solid fibre broadband connection. Many customers get stable speeds that suit everyday needs, and the service is simple to set up in most homes. Because TalkTalk uses multiple underlying networks including Openreach and several full fibre partners, you may find good availability even in places where other providers are limited. For casual streaming, schoolwork, online shopping and TV catch up, it usually does the job.

That said, there are a few things worth keeping in mind. The biggest potential issue is customer service. Reviews often mention long wait times, support that can feel hit and miss and issues taking longer than expected to sort. TalkTalk’s ratings for reliability and support tend to sit below some of the other major providers. If you are happy with a lower cost option and only need the basics to run smoothly most of the time, it can work well enough. If you work from home, rely heavily on your connection or you cannot afford interruptions, you may want to compare other options first.

It is also sensible to check what happens when your contract ends. TalkTalk broadband is known for promoting attractive starter prices, but once your initial deal finishes the cost can rise. Taking a moment to understand your renewal rate and any price promise is a good idea. Take a look at our best broadband deals page for discounts. As always, the speed you sign up for refers to the line into your home. What you actually experience depends on Wi-Fi strength, the layout of your property and the quality of your equipment. Larger houses or those with thick walls may need stronger internal Wi-Fi setups to get the best from the broadband connection.

TalkTalk broadband suits people who want a simple broadband option at a fair price and do not need the highest level of support. It offers good value on the right deal and can handle the normal mix of streaming, browsing and work tasks for most homes. If you prefer a provider with stronger satisfaction scores or guaranteed support response times, then it is worth exploring alternatives. But for many households looking for a budget friendly fibre broadband service without too much fuss, TalkTalk broadband remains a sensible choice.

My broadband ISP is Utility Warehouse not TalkTalk, and once again I am very happy with the constant line speed and level of service. No fluctuations whatsoever

I am just fed up with variable speeds, sudden total short term WiFi loss and occasional 'what is happening now'. Contract ends soon.

Despite assurances that my Broadband would typically offer 63 meg incoming and 15 meg outgoing the outgoing often drops to 4meg!!!!

Once again this month, Utility Warehouse delivers on its promised speed and service. No complaints at all.

TalkTalk eventually supplied the speed expected of them, but it took several weeks, and they did not listen to my detailed explanation of the problems. I then wrote a letter to head of TalkTalk with a detailed graph based on their own test regime showing the broadband speeds, day by day, hour by hour (24hrs/day),for a period of a month. It was absolutely clear from this that the problem was not at my end, but despite this clear evidence they still persisted with their view about, router problem, filters, etc. Having exhausted all the TalkTalk procedures, I then wrote to the Broadband Ombudsman. They took up my case and low and behold within 24 hours, my broadband rocketed away and has not dropped since. I have to say that my broadband now performs better than expected. Why won't these broadband providers listen to their customers, especially when the customer is a specialist in this field who knows what he is talking about, which was very evident from the detailed report. I feel for the people with little or no understanding of the technology, because if I could not convince them, then what chance have those without the technical knowledge got..!

TalkTalk are not satisfactory, but then talking to my neighbours who have BT and Virgin, they have the same problems at what was twice the price. However TalkTalk are gradually increasing their charges and adding new charges in; my charges have increased by 50% for the same service over the last 18 months. They need to be careful. Customer service is dreadful most of the time. You get someone in India over a dreadful quality line (this is a telecoms provider!) who does not always speak English clearly and can be difficult to understand. It can take at least 20 minutes on the line to get through and then they follow the scripted card even though most of it is not relevant most of the time. The problems are not understood and solutions are not satisfactory. Sometimes I have been passed around different people (each with a pick up wait time) only to end up back where I started! If you get a pick-up in the UK or Ireland (rarely) then the call is quite short and resolved quickly. BUT the reliability is inconsistent. I regularly get slow responses on my 40Meg fibre product even though the TT speed tester says everything is fantastic, and my video streaming buffers daily. Other speed testers show drops to 28 Meg or even as low as 19Meg. The momentary line drop outs are also a problem. Overall I have been happy to put up with this because of the low cost compared with other providers, but as TalkTalk crank up their charges I am looking at alternatives.
