Freedom Truespeed Group formed through completed merger
Truespeed and Freedom Fibre have confirmed that the merger of the two businesses has been completed, following regulatory approval, and the companies have now formed Freedom Truespeed Group. The companies say they now have 412,000 premises ready for service and 70,000 customers across the combined entity. There is no change to how services will be delivered, with Freedom Fibre continuing as the group’s wholesale network, whilst Truespeed and LilaConnect will be the consumer-facing brands.
Godshill broadband update – Openreach building
Following the news earlier this week about a change to the Wessex Internet Project Gigabit rollout, it’s become apparent from the Openreach checker that they are now building in the area. A number of addresses in the area are showing as ‘We are building in this area now’ around Godshill, where previously Wessex Internet was expected to roll out via the Project Gigabit contract. While this message is hopeful for local residents, we’d caution that until they actually have the service up and running, plans may change, and the Openreach ‘building in your area’ wording can sometimes be a fairly wide area.
World Mobile Stratospheric and Britten-Norman announce airborne 5G antenna system ready to deploy
A collaboration between World Mobile Stratospheric and aircraft manufacturer Britten-Norman to deploy an airborne 5G system is now ready for installation after the company announced that design and preparation work had been completed. Test flights are expected to commence in the summer. Once running, the aircraft will be used to test how 5G systems can be delivered both from an aircraft, in a disaster resilience point of view, and also in a future high-throughput network using stratospheric-based, hydrogen-powered, unmanned aircraft.
