Ofcom rejects competition harm from Openreach proactive upgrades to FTTP
Ofcom has put out a letter to the industry saying that it does not yet see evidence of clear competition harm from the Openreach offer, where it encourages ISPs to migrate customers from copper to fibre products for a reduced fee.
EE has launched its 2025 Community Challenge
EE has announced that its employees have pledged 45,000 hours of their time to support local causes across the country, an increase from 35,000 last year. Staff pledges from store and contact centres include dedicating time to educating students, parents, and teachers about staying safe online.
Wi-Fi performance on railways across Europe has a wide variance
Sweden has the best train Wi-Fi in Europe, with median download speeds of 64.6 Mbps, whilst the UK lags at 1.09 Mbps and the Netherlands at 0.41 Mbps. The study by Ookla has found that the backhaul from the train is the main issue.
Ofcom confirms auction bidders for mmWave spectrum
BT (EE), Telefonica (O2) and Vodafone (VodafoneThree) have been confirmed as the auction bidders by Ofcom for mmWave spectrum, awarding 26GHz and 40GHz spectrum for mobile use in High Density Areas.
Over 1.8m over-65’s have been scammed online in the last year
Virgin Media O2 says that over 15% of 65-year olds have been scammed in the last year. It has listed common ways people are scammed and is looking at running ‘Scam School’ sessions to help educate. (Don’t forget to check our recent Broadband & Scam-Smart guide for older households.)
