North Isles, Orkney subsea cable fault update
An update on the fault affecting the North Isles cable fault which has been affecting services since mid March. BT have been continuing work on trying to get the fault on the cable running under the sea repaired. A statement to the BBC said
“This incident was caused by damage to a subsea cable. As soon as we became aware of the outage, we requested a specialist repair vessel, which requires five clear weather days on site to complete its work. While this means we are unable to give a precise repair date – until the vessel is on site and the damage is fully assessed – our teams are monitoring conditions so that work can begin as soon as it is practical and safe to do so.”
BT Statement
A cable-laying ship, the Pierre de Fermat, has now been seen in the area, so we hope that the fault will now be repaired soon.
