Unbundling steps forward

At a meeting today between BT, Oftel and all operators interested in local loop unbundling (LLU), BT agreed that unbundled loops would be available at over 600 exchanges by 1 July. Co-location will
occur in room inside the exchange and sites in nearby buildings.

A Service Level Agreement between operators and BT will exist to ensure that these facilities are available on time.

Collocation facilities at the first four ‘trial’ exchanges will be ready for triallists by December. The first firm build orders for collocation facilities at further exchanges are
expected to be placed later this month. Unbundled loops will be available as soon as the facilities have been handed over and operators have installed their equipment.
