Ultrafast Underriver campaign almost at trigger level

Gigabit broadband is the pinnacle of broadband access in the UK, and if just another 20 residents or businesses in the Underriver area on the outskirts of Sevenoaks order the service Gigaclear will begin construction work.

The Plough in Ivy Hatch has signed up and with the legacy of being the first property in Ivy Hatch to have mains electricity in 1943, it will hopefully in a few months be able to add a new plaque stating the first property in Ivy Hatch to have Gigabit broadband.

Gigaclear offer a variety of services, from a symmetric 50 Mbps product for £37/month through to the full monty 1000 Mbps symmetric connection with an optional static IP for £69/month. The big bonus being that there is no requirement for voice line rental, which saves around £9.50 to £15.40, and the range of cheap VoIP based call packages is ever growing.

Installation is often cited as a problem, but the DIY competent, i.e. can drill a hole in a wall without knocking it down just pay the £100 connection fee which supplies the 25m of final fibre and the router, or people can elect for a third party installer for £95 (for runs over 25m from the final fibre pot the cost will increase on a per metre basis).

It would appear that take up of the service is in part dependent on the effectiveness of the local rep assigned to each area. Time will tell, but hopefully this issue has now been addressed.
