Now that a full commercial launch date has been announced for the Fibre to the Premises (FTTP) product from Openreach we will
hopefully see more retail providers offering the service. The launch date on
2nd July, follows on from trials of new speed variants.
Our fibre forum regularly features people who know their area is earmarked
for the FTTP service, but the roll-out has not been completed. With luck
Openreach will use the full commercial launch to put more resources into
rolling out the service to the 10-15% of premises in the UK that FTTP is
earmarked for.
While a lot of the coverage is focused on the fastest options that give 330
Mbps downstream, and 30 Mbps upstream, the availability of the slower 80 Mbps
should help to ensure people can afford to buy the service.

Exchange is enabled for fibre, new cabinets along the road. But the cabinets for the business park we’re on are not. Always hoped that it was because we might in line for full FTTP instead of FTTC… fingers crossed!
That is good news, perhaps now they will start trialing the FTTP on-demand.
Went live on 18/5 and to say things are in my experience a little chaotic in BT land when it comes to FTTP, is putting things mildly (and politely)
My case is slightly different as I’m on the Fibre Voice Access trial, but the right hand certainly doesn’t know what the left hand is doing
How about enabling more exchanges first? I’m sick of living in a technological black hole even though I’m less than a fucking mile from cable and fiber. :/
then have yoiu confirmed waht exchnage you are on via sam nkows — if that exchnage not o deployment list sugggest you speak to your local authority to see if you are likely to be in their White / Grey area

It is great that such connection speeds will be available, but the current backhaul and ISP servers need to be massively improved. Surely it is unacceptable to offer ‘up to’ 80mb but only guarantee 30mb during peak hours? Taking the same ratio, you should expect 125mb during peak hours but can the network cope?
Why is it unacceptable ScubaGirl? residential broadband is a contended service the clue is in the price compared to a business service with guaranteed throughput and SLA’s
You can’t have 80Mbps guaranteed 24/7 for under 50pm 🙂
Contention is a feature of consumer broadband around the world and is why even in those funny foreign countries.
Hence why average in South Korea is something just under 20 Meg.
