Additional Comments

What Plusnet broadband does well is value for money and simplicity. Many users highlight that the setup is straightforward, the pricing at the start is competitive, and the support lines are based in the UK. Reviews usually point to a good value service and comments about fair pricing and staff who are easy to contact and happy to help when things go well.
With that said, there are some recurring complaints. Reliability scores for Plusnet broadband are lower than some of its competitors. Some reviewers note that while customer service is not bad, the reliability can be a bit weaker. Looking through customer comments online you will find examples of slow average speeds, connection dropouts and occasionally, unhelpful support when things do go wrong.

Another factor to check is what happens after your contract ends. Some users report price rises or less favourable renewal deals. If you are signing up, it is worth checking the terms for renewal and any speed guarantees.

Much of Plusnet’s fibre broadband uses the same networks as other major providers via BT and Openreach. That means the physical network is solid, but your actual experience may depend a lot on your local cabinet, wiring and router.

If you are considering Plusnet broadband you should ask yourself a few questions. Is your property eligible for the speed you need? Are you comfortable with the contract term and the likelihood of a price increase after the first term? Do you have a suitable Wi Fi setup in your home so that you get the speeds you pay for, not just what the line can support? When it works well, Plusnet broadband can be a good choice for everyday users, streaming, browsing, online work and casual gaming. It ticks the reliable box for many. But if you live in a large home, do a lot of heavy uploads or downloads or need ultra high performance with complete peace of mind, you may want to check what extras are needed such as a better router or mesh network, or compare other providers with higher reliability ratings.

Depressingly average these days. Speeds have steadily fallen over the time we've had an FTTC connection, from over 70Mb when first connected to around 55Mb now. This isn't acceptable, especially given that the BT engineer who fixed the problems left by PlusNet's contractor measured our connection as being capable of a theoretical 80Mb. There's absolutely no sign of FTTP coming to our location any time soon, which is unforgivable.

Plusnet has been my provider for several years, fist direct with Plusnet, then subcontracted from John Lewis, and this year direct with Plusnet again. they had always been reliable but over the last few months I have on several occasions lost access to the internet. On nearly every occasion the router has maintained its connection to Plusnet but there has been no internet access. Access has usually returned after a short time, more than a few minutes but less than many hours. I have also noticed there is sometimes a decided deterioration in speed, dropping from the usual 60+ Mbps to a few Mbps. On some occasions when the access has disappeared or become degraded I have instead used my mobile phone as a hotspot - usable for tablet and laptop but not convenient for the TV or my desktop PC which is connected to the router via ethernet. not WiFi.

I can't fault them. Had a problem a few months ago when speed dropped dramatically. Phoned customer service who answered very quicly. They diagnosed what was causing the fault and an Openreach engineer called the following day. He found a couple of faults on the line including the fibre cable into the cabinet. Fixed both and also installed a new master socket that includes a filter. Line now very stable and speed faster than every.

I've been a customer of Plusnet for many years. They always provide an exceedingly competitive pricing regime coupled to brilliant reliability. Because their service is so reliable I have had no recent need of customer.

Not good and very slow.

They are brilliant - it's so nice to speak to a real person.

Good on reliability but not so much for dealing with customer service.

When PlusNet were 100% based in Sheffield they were consistently one of the best providers around. Now that they've expanded they're just ordinary. The speed and reliability we see here is OK in the context of FTTC, but nothing special. The really serious problem is the lack of any sign that FTTP will become available in my neighbourhood any time soon. This is inexcusable.
