Additional Comments

What Plusnet broadband does well is value for money and simplicity. Many users highlight that the setup is straightforward, the pricing at the start is competitive, and the support lines are based in the UK. Reviews usually point to a good value service and comments about fair pricing and staff who are easy to contact and happy to help when things go well.
With that said, there are some recurring complaints. Reliability scores for Plusnet broadband are lower than some of its competitors. Some reviewers note that while customer service is not bad, the reliability can be a bit weaker. Looking through customer comments online you will find examples of slow average speeds, connection dropouts and occasionally, unhelpful support when things do go wrong.

Another factor to check is what happens after your contract ends. Some users report price rises or less favourable renewal deals. If you are signing up, it is worth checking the terms for renewal and any speed guarantees.

Much of Plusnet’s fibre broadband uses the same networks as other major providers via BT and Openreach. That means the physical network is solid, but your actual experience may depend a lot on your local cabinet, wiring and router.

If you are considering Plusnet broadband you should ask yourself a few questions. Is your property eligible for the speed you need? Are you comfortable with the contract term and the likelihood of a price increase after the first term? Do you have a suitable Wi Fi setup in your home so that you get the speeds you pay for, not just what the line can support? When it works well, Plusnet broadband can be a good choice for everyday users, streaming, browsing, online work and casual gaming. It ticks the reliable box for many. But if you live in a large home, do a lot of heavy uploads or downloads or need ultra high performance with complete peace of mind, you may want to check what extras are needed such as a better router or mesh network, or compare other providers with higher reliability ratings.

Having had Plusnet as my ISP for several years, I am happy to recommend them. I have their 'Unlimited Fibre Extra' package (FTTC), together with anytime calls. The speeds that I get are 70.5 mbps down and 17.8mbps up with a latency of 20m/s, which is perfectly adequate for my requirements, and on the occasions that I have contacted their Yorkshire based helpline, I have always received excellent help.

I have been with Plusnet for several years now. I have no particular problems with them and have not had much reason to call support. If I have any complaint it is that I don't get the full speed promised all the time, but as I don't do any large downloads or streaming it is not a big problem.

I have now moved from Plusnet to Zen after 10 years. Because of a long copper feed from the nearest cabinet all fibre speeds in the area are low but during lockdown mine reduced from mid-20's to as low as 13 before increasing to around 20. I knew from enquiries that most neighbours were obtaining better speeds. As I was coming to the end of my contract with Plusnet I looked around and decided on Zen because of the excellent customer reviews over long periods. Speeds are now up to 30 so it was the right decision.
