Additional Comments

What Plusnet broadband does well is value for money and simplicity. Many users highlight that the setup is straightforward, the pricing at the start is competitive, and the support lines are based in the UK. Reviews usually point to a good value service and comments about fair pricing and staff who are easy to contact and happy to help when things go well.
With that said, there are some recurring complaints. Reliability scores for Plusnet broadband are lower than some of its competitors. Some reviewers note that while customer service is not bad, the reliability can be a bit weaker. Looking through customer comments online you will find examples of slow average speeds, connection dropouts and occasionally, unhelpful support when things do go wrong.

Another factor to check is what happens after your contract ends. Some users report price rises or less favourable renewal deals. If you are signing up, it is worth checking the terms for renewal and any speed guarantees.

Much of Plusnet’s fibre broadband uses the same networks as other major providers via BT and Openreach. That means the physical network is solid, but your actual experience may depend a lot on your local cabinet, wiring and router.

If you are considering Plusnet broadband you should ask yourself a few questions. Is your property eligible for the speed you need? Are you comfortable with the contract term and the likelihood of a price increase after the first term? Do you have a suitable Wi Fi setup in your home so that you get the speeds you pay for, not just what the line can support? When it works well, Plusnet broadband can be a good choice for everyday users, streaming, browsing, online work and casual gaming. It ticks the reliable box for many. But if you live in a large home, do a lot of heavy uploads or downloads or need ultra high performance with complete peace of mind, you may want to check what extras are needed such as a better router or mesh network, or compare other providers with higher reliability ratings.

Six and a half years with Plusnet, phone package and BB first ADSL2 then FTTC a couple of years ago. Never had an outage or break in service, speeds around 11Mb on ADSL and 35Mb or more on FTTC. I'm no techie and we don't stream much so the PN routers have done our job. However, the PN Community Forum has a detailed section on using the BT HH6; I picked on up for £15 on Gumtree and find similar performance with 20% better wifi. Great value for money although one must haggle with retentions at renewal time. Which brings my only criticism of Plusnet: their accounts system which has screwed up every renewal since joining them in 2014, while the forums feature too many complaints re accounts and billing. Not helped by the system refusing to display accounts on Firefox, I must use Chrome or Edge to view my bills. The customer reps are snowed under especially since Covid but sort it out with a phone call for which one must hold on for long periods. Apart from this I can recommend Plusnet.

It's a pity that the support people at PlusNet don't realise that being rude to customers will eventually impact their jobs and salaries. It seems they have been trained at the BT school of 'The Customer is never right'. A tip - when you are wrong, when the product has a fault - fix it, rather than hiding behind sarcasm and threats.

Customer service is excellent. Unfortunately they are reliant on Openreach. For the last year, over two to three months our speed has spiralled down to nearly half of what the line is capable of. An engineer calls, tests and declares the line to be fine. They then reset the line and it jumps back up only for the cycle to repeat. After three engineer visits, have given up and am moving to the dark side - Virgin,

Over thelast year, my download speeds have slowly fallen from 70MB to the present 30MB which is still within my promised speed but is pathetic. Plusnet webmail is so unreliable as to be useless if needed in a hurry. I just find it very difficult to even connect.

This updates my earlier review of Plusnet, originally ADSL2 10Mb, past couple of years FTTC 40/10 with average 35Mb. Then as now PN has been totally reliable with no outage in more than six years. Speeds around 35/36Mb even at peak congestion times. Like any ISP it takes ages to get through to customer service, while PN has ceased its email and chat contacts. I've found the CS agents helpful and pleasant even in the present difficult conditions when the agent was working from his apartment and admitted he really missed joining his pals in the centre. And the reason I called them? PN's only fault is its chaotic accounting system which has screwed up every renewal since I joined them. The forum is full of similar complaints and the agents say they would far rather be helping people than sorting out their tangled accounts. To sum up: Reliability, speed, value for money, helpful staff: five stars each. Accounts: one star.

We've been with PlusNet for over 10 years, in Kew and Brentford. For the past 5 years we've been on their Unlimited Fibre Extra (FTTC) deal and quite reliably get 70 megs down, 20 up, so streaming and Zoom Pro always works. We have 3 BT discs to spread wifi round the whole place, no dead spots. Their customer service has generally been good, eg they cut us off a week early when we moved from Kew but gave us generous discounts to compensate, eg I bought a phone data package to make a wifi hotspot. I have been getting fed up with having a separate line rental contract (we never use our landline for calls - our 'landline' number is VoIP) and I was thinking of moving to Zen next time. But after I left them waiting a while on a so-so offer PlusNet made me an offer I couldn't refuse for broadband and line rental combined so I signed up for a couple more years. Their automated systems couldn't cope with ending the separate line rental but a human sorted it all efficiently over the phone.

I use to give Plusnet support 5* but I suspect that the pandemic has ruined their capability to provide a 5* service

We are plagued with constant loss of service for short periods. There is clearly not enough capacity on the system in a rural location now that everyone is working and schooling from home. We desperately await installation of fibre to the premises in 2021, it can't come soon enough.
