Vodafone trials 8Gbps home broadband
Vodafone has announced that Pro 4 Broadband will be rolled out later this year, bringing 8Gbps speeds over the CityFibre network to people’s homes. Trials are under way with customers reporting real-world speeds of 8Gbps. The company also has confirmed that they have tested 10Gbps speeds with CityFibre over 50GPON. Vodafone has also said they will enable a 5G broadband Essentials social tariff.
“Broadband is evolving fast, and we’re leading that shift with breakthrough fibre speeds and real‑world innovation.
Our Pro 4 trials are already giving customers across the UK access to true 8Gbps performance, and combined with our successful 10Gbps testing on 50GPON, we’re showing what next‑generation connectivity can unlock for homes powered by AI, cloud and high‑capacity connected devices.
While we push the boundaries of speed, we’re equally focused on making fast, reliable broadband accessible and secure for everyone. Our 5G Broadband Essentials social tariff will offer the most affordable 5G broadband on the market, and our enhanced Secure Net service gives families a simple, unified way to stay safer online across both broadband and mobile.
Together, these innovations reflect our vision for a future where fast, reliable and secure broadband is accessible to every home in the UK.”

BT reverses EE TV branding as ‘BT TV’ to return
BT TV will be available from 15th October to “make entertainment and sport simpler” for customers. BT retired its TV service in December 2023 to make it EE TV as part of its shift to move consumer services away from the BT brand. The company has, however, been reversing this and is now restoring the BT TV brand. According to BT’s own help pages, existing customers will keep the same TV package and monthly price with channels and content. Recordings, existing boxes and any streaming services such as Netflix/NOW/HBO Max will remain.
