Residents in South Tyneside may already have seen GCU UK Ltd working on behalf of CityFibre as they build a new full fibre network in the area, and hopefully now it will not be long until the first homes can be connected.

Openreach says big milestone has been reached with 700,000 premises across Wales able to order a FTTP service over their wholesale network.

CityFibre is keen to highlight that while the contracted amount of premises in the Hampshire, Norfolk and Suffolk contracts is around 217,200 with commercial expansion they will also connect an additional 283,000 premises.

Blyth in the North East is one of the places where nexfibre has been building its FTTP service and the range of Virgin Media O2 services from 100 Mbps to 1152 Mbps download speeds are available.

On top of the PSTN switch off in 2025, there is a longer term plan to shrink the Openreach exchange footprint from around 5,500 exchanges to something like 1,000 to 1,200 exchanges between 2030 and 2040.

CityFibre is celebrating being granted wayleaves to 1 million premises by local authority and housing associations. CityFibre say this will help support an equitable rollout of full fibre.

Devon and Somerset is not far off the UK average at 51.89% FTTP coverage, i.e. just one point behind but levels of superfast coverage still mean 5% of the around 820,000 premises still don't have access to a superfast service.

The last month has seen us add 236,113 premises to the Openreach full fibre footprint.

The switching off of the venerable analogue phone system run by Openreach is getting closer and as part of that another 119 exchanges have been addded to the list where restrictions on new phone lines will apply before the final switch off.
