The latest BT Group results reveal that Openreach has passed some 2,979,000 premises with FTTP and connected 554,000 properties with live lines.

The list of villages and towns where Openreach is to build full fibre to in the next three years just got a lot larger. The updated list is part of a larger programme where the operator has committed to building FTTP to some 3.2 million premises.

Truespeed are busy rolling out FTTP in South West England and Wells is the largest area they are building to at present.

It has been a long time coming and while if happy to phone up TalkTalk you might be able to order FTTP, the launch is still something of a soft launch.

Two more areas in the East Riding of Yorkshire are starting to be able to order a full fibre service from KCOM.

Openreach and its teams and contractors have been busy during lockdown and have increased their build rate such as there are now 3 million premises where FTTP is available via the providers using the Openreach network.

The Fibre First build in Edinburgh has been underway since the start of the Fibre First programme and they are not finished yet.

Northern Ireland is currently the best region for access to full fibre and with another 94 areas announced by Openreach it looks likely to retain that crown.

The Virgin Media DOCSIS 3.1 roll-out and subsequent switch on continues with Liverpool and Edinburgh increasing the Virgin Media Gigabit by over 600,000 premises.

BT has reduced the price of its Fibre 1 Unlimited broadband service which is based on the 55/10 VDSL2 or FTTP products. Unfortunately the BT Reward Card has also dropped in value from £80 to £50.
