Thirteen years ago the mean download speed seen in the UK was just 3.3. Mbps and is now vastly increased at 95 Mbps. We look at how the download and upload speeds have changed in those thirteen years.

Project Gigabit is meant to be spending some £1.2 billion to build Gigabit capable services in areas where commercial operators fear to tread and we are now ready to track what effect this money will have.

New homes already far outstrip the rest of the UK housing stock for availability of Gigabit and full fibre connectivity but changes to the Building Regulations 2010 aim to push the current 96% to something closer to 100%.

We were close to 40% when the 70% premises passed by Gigabit was announced, but we have now broken the 40% barrier for full fibre networks in the UK.

We passed the 60% mark in November 2021 and now we can share that the UK has 70.2% of premises with the ability to order a DOCSIS 3.1 cable or a full fibre service.

Another percentage point closer towards the majority of the UK having access to full fibre. At this time there is still 61% who cannot enjoy the reliability and speed choice full fibre provides.

Another bumper month for additions to our verification of the Openreach full fibre footprint with our database growing by some 317,787 premises.

A lot later on the 7th of the month than usual, due in part to starting the overnight analysis a few hours later than usual but our monthly snapshot of how the improvements in broadband coverage across the UK regions is now available.
