July 2023 update on broadband availability across the UK, nations and regions

The roll-outs of full fibre continue at a decent pace and if the pace of the last nine months is sustained we could see 85% FTTP coverage in October 2025, following on from hitting 85% Gigabit coverage in October 2024.

Two thirds of consumers haven’t switched broadband in past two years.

Research undertaken on behalf of Cuckoo Broadband has found that two thirds of UK broadband users have not switched broadband providers in the past two years, and 20% have never switched at all. The research by Hummingbird Insights for Cuckoo asked a representative sample of almost 1,300 UK households about their broadband service.

53% of UK premises passed by an FTTP network

The last point of additional full fibre coverage has taken 26 days to pass and looking at the longer term pass the UK is on course for 85% full fibre coverage in August 2025.

Hampshire, Norfolk and Suffolk Project Gigabit contracts go to CityFibre

CityFIbre has won three contracts to deliver Gigabit broadband to around 217,200 premises across three counties with £318 million of public money.

R100 progress in Scotland and how much has changed in 12 months

The Scottish R100 project is being delivered in three lots and was originally meant to complete by the end of 2021. With 24,194 contracted premises delivered and a further 90,675 premises to have decent broadband delivered it is clear that work is going to continue for a few more years.

June 2023 update on broadband coverage in Ofcom areas 2 & 3

A milestone for alt-net full fibre, in Area 2 (proxy for urban UK) 1 in 4 premises are now served by an alt-net FTTP network. Alt-net means any FTTP network that is not Openreach, Virgin Media or KCOM.
