Wireless Broadband Week – Reminder
Next week is Wireless Broadband Week, where providers such as BT Openzone are offering free access to their range of wireless hotspots for users who sign up for the trial. BT has only just announced it will be adding 13 railway stations to the network by spring with major commuter stations both inside and outside London.
Needham Market is 1000th BT exchange to reach its trigger level
Another small milestone on the way to bringing affordable broadband to consumers around the UK. The Needham Market BT exchange is the 1000th exchange to be activated via BTs demand tracker scheme.

The Access to Broadband Campaign is hosting a conference entitled "Revolution at the Edge: Broadband Networks and Innovation" on 27th and 28th of January near London. The organisers are looking for a small number of representatives from small-to-medium sized businesses employing five or more people to attend the session on business applications on day 2 to tell people how broadband has made a difference to their day-to-day business.
Chance to petition Scottish Parliament on broadband
An e-petition is running on The Scottish Parliament website calling for "Broadband for All of Scotland by mid 2005". This provides a chance for the people of Scotland to show their interest in the matter and raise awareness in their politicians.
Torrington, Devon set to gain a commercial wireless service
Torrington is set to be the first town in the Broadband4Devon area that will have a commercial wireless broadband service. This is as the result of the Objective 2 funding in the area.

A group of five top UK executives of telecommunications firms have written a letter criticising the government's Traffic Management Bill currently on its way through parliament. They say it will impact on the rollout of broadband across the U.K. when government should be promoting it instead of hindering it.
