Zen Internet

Summary

Zen Internet is one of the UK’s more trusted independent broadband providers. For over 30 years they have focused on delivering reliable service, strong technical support and clean pricing. If you are fed up with rising costs, poor support or slow lines then Zen often comes up as the alternative worth checking out. Zenwas one of the earlier smaller operators but has grown to be one of the smaller "big" players. They have five years of being a Which? Recommend Broadband provider and are a Certified B-Corp. They provide both Openreach-based products as well as various altnets.

Additional Comments

The offer is straightforward. Zen delivers fibre broadband across the UK via major networks like Openreach and CityFibre, along with smaller altnets Trooli and Freedom Fibre. Where full‑fibre (FTTP) is available they have broadband packages that give strong speeds and decent upload rates, which is useful for streaming, working from home or heavy usage households. Many customers report that once the fibre broadband service is live the connection feels stable and performs well. Their award‑winning status in several reviews shows that the company ticks the boxes for value, speed and service in many cases.

Where Zen really stands out is support, excellent customer service and transparency. Reviewers often mention that calls are answered quickly by UK‑based staff who know what they are doing. Issues are handled without a lot of back and forth and installations tend to be clean. For people who have had frustrating experiences with larger ISPs, that personal touch makes a difference. The fact that Zen keeps its pricing clear and avoids hidden extras is another plus.

That said, it is not flawless. Coverage remains the key issue. Although Zen Internet works across much of the UK, the exact speed and availability at your address may differ. Also, even if a fibre line comes to your door you still need a solid internal setup. If your router is old, Wi‑Fi signal is weak or you have a large house with thick walls, you might not see the full benefit. Some users report that in rarer fault situations support could be slower than ideal and that communication when build work drags on might not feel as smooth as expected.

Price is another area to check carefully. Zen’s plans tend to cost a little more than some budget providers because you are paying for stronger support and service. If you prioritise lowest cost above everything else then you might find cheaper alternatives. It is wise to check contract length, renewal pricing, what is included and what happens if you move or need to change provider. Zen however do offer a Contract Price Promise - this means that there are no incontract price rises, and you will pay the same amount for the full length of your contract term, with no unexpected price rises.

[WARNING] Zen Internet: The Premium Myth – 6 Days Offline & Abandoned (Ref: C-4480736) I am writing this as a formal warning. I chose Zen, paying £45/month for Full Fibre 900, because of their "award-winning" reputation. I even turned down a £21/month offer from Virgin Media to trust Zen. It was the biggest mistake of my professional life. 1. THE DECEPTION (MARCH 25) My contract guaranteed installation by March 25. Zen repeatedly assured me my Virgin service would not be cut until Zen was live. They lied. At midnight on March 26, I was cut off. No internet, no Zen, no warning. 2. BROKEN PROMISES (MARCH 30) After waiting 2+ hours on hold, I was promised an engineer today, March 30. I stayed home and cleared my business schedule. No one showed up. No call. Now, they have pushed the "update" to April 1st, then quietly moved it to April 2nd via email. They aren\'t even promising a fix anymore—just another "update." 3. THE "SELF-FUNDED" RECOVERY As a home business owner, being offline is disastrous. Zen’s response? They told me no internet is a "personal expense" and refused to reimburse the emergency SIM card I was forced to buy at ASDA today just to keep my business alive. A "premium" ISP telling a customer to fend for themselves is a total disgrace. 4. THE HOTSPOT FARCE Zen offered a temporary 4G hotspot, then admitted they have NO STOCK. I was told there is a "waiting list" and it could take "a day, a week, or a year." An emergency backup that requires a waiting list is a joke, not a solution. 5. TOTAL ABANDONMENT Zen has known since March 26 that I am offline. They have done nothing. I have been effectively abandoned. I am sharing this on Trustpilot, ISPreview, ThinkBroadband, and Reddit to warn others. Zen, fix my connection and reimburse my emergency costs. Stop the excuses.

Mostly OK, but speeds can sometimes be erratic, and they take the service down during the night sometimes for maintenance.
