Hyperoptic

Summary

Hyperoptic is a UK broadband provider that has built its business around full-fibre to the premises (FTTP) connections. When the service is available at your address, the performance is very strong: upload and download speeds are symmetrical, and customers often report a major jump in reliability and capacity compared with legacy infrastructure. The company targets urban apartment blocks, flats and multi-dwelling units in cities and large towns, where its network can deliver its full potential.

Additional Comments

Many users praise the installation process as smooth, the router provided as adequate (or very good) and the customer service staff as responsive and knowledgeable. For example, in independent reviews they report high ratings for speed, reliability and satisfaction in buildings where the network is live.

However, the service does come with some issues. The most important one is coverage: Hyperoptic’s network is not yet universal, and many homes are simply not eligible yet, particularly outside urban centres or in detached houses. For some, the postcode checker may show availability, but actual installation may involve delays or additional work depending on the building. Some customers report that while the speed promise is met, their WiFi range or wired performance in older properties is less than optimal, so as always the in-home setup matters. A further concern is pricing and contract terms: although Hyperoptic has traditionally prided itself on transparent pricing, no mid-contract price rises and simple terms, in recent times the company has signalled some changes to its policy, meaning new customers should check carefully what happens after the initial term and what the renewal or out-of-term pricing will be. Also, while customer service is often praised, there are documented complaints from users who experienced long wait times for support, delays for engineer visits, or had difficulty resolving problems without escalation.

In practical terms, if your property is in a building that Hyperoptic serves and you can get its full-fibre connection, it offers a compelling option: fast symmetrical broadband, modern infrastructure, straightforward terms and a network built for high demand. It is especially attractive for households with many devices, significant upload needs, streaming in multiple rooms or remote working. On the flip side, if you live in a more remote or less-densely built location, or you value all-in-one bundles (broadband + TV + mobile) from a much larger brand, then you might find better availability or pricing options elsewhere.

Thank you Hyperoptic for making me forget the helpdesk. Before it was like a routine to call or check the app for service problems with the previous provider. Now I don't need to, as I have no problems. Updating Adobe products were a nightmare with the previous provider. I had to retry several times. Now with Hyperoptics I just receive a message saying that products are updated and that's all..

Brilliant, fast, reliable fibre-optic broadband but falls down on customer service call waiting times.I was recently on the phone for 1 hour 40 minutes ,of which 1½ hours was spent on hold listening to their insane music

Great speeds, solid reliability over many years and great customer service team that do reply and share useful details when prompted. If available to you, look no further.

The single worst broadband provider I have ever dealt with. Almost zero customer support and massive issues with contention and packetloss.
Lurksy 02 Nov 2023 (reviewed 2 years ago)
The worst network provider I have ever been with. Customer support is borderline non-existant and the network contention is horrific with huge packetloss during peak hours making gaming unplayable. Would give 0/10 stars and recommend to NEVER consider their service.

Consistently brilliant on speed & reliability.

I switched to Hyperoptic in the autumn because my previous ISP had a problem, which BT Openreach, from whom they had rented the bandwidth were completely useless at fixing it. So bad in fact I got my money back and the cancellation fee waived. Since then I have had excellent service from Hyperoptic. I no longer buy a TV package but rely on apps. Once Hyperoptic has gone down, just about at my bedtime, and it was fixed by morning. As good a utilities switch as could be.
