Warning: MS Windows Update Problems

A number of our forum users have noticed a ‘Windows Update’ website driver download for the Alcatel USB ADSL modem.

Our advice is do NOT let Windows Update the driver because the following problems are likely to occur:

The speeds reported by the diagnostics software are the wrong way around, it appears the upstream and downstream speeds are swapped – actual throughput seems unaffected. The worst part is that it
may overwrite the existing drivers with a set of PPPoE drivers, which is the common standard in the US – but not for all the world including the UK.
