We’ve obtained some information on the new modem that should appear in Jan 2001. It is the Fujitsu FDX305 as seen here
Apparently it has drivers for Win98 and Win2000, and a certified driver for WinME.
A Mac OS8/9 driver does exist and is in testing and will be available shortly after launch, with OSX(10) support to follow. They claim to not be formally supporting a LINUX release.
The power consumption is described as less than the 500mA limit set by USB1.1 specs, and yes it is powered from the USB bus again.
