Note: see below correction after GoFibre reissued the press release to advise that premises are not yet live.
As part of its Project Gigabit contract, the altnet GoFibre is busy rolling out its full fibre service to places such as Montrose, Dunkeld, Bankfoot, Newtonhill, Portlethen, Alyth and Coupar Angus.
The roll-out in Angus, Perth & Kinross and Aberdeenshire is seeing the first properties going Ready for Service in the new towns and will be bringing full fibre to homes and businesses for the first time. Some of the build may be overbuilding other full fibre networks, in which case the subsidy from the Project Gigabit will not apply. The Project Gigabit contract should see GoFibre rollout to some 63,000 premises where other providers have said they have no plans to build.

“GoFibre’s on a mission to improve digital connectivity in rural and hard-to-reach areas. It’s fantastic to see more homes and businesses in Perth & Kinross and Aberdeenshire Scotland ready to connect to our network and able to enjoy the same lightning-fast, ultra-reliable connectivity as the country’s cities.
We are not only committed to helping to bridge the digital divide in rural Scotland; we are also delivering economic benefits to the communities we are connecting by creating jobs during the rollout.”
Andy Hepburn, Chief Operating Officer, GoFibre
GoFibre already has a footprint of around 15,300 premises in Angus and 9,600 in Aberdeenshire, with the properties that are being built now adding to that footprint. The rollout is supporting some 30 direct construction roles and up to 180 jobs across the rollout’s lifetime.
We will pencil in some time today to look at the areas around Montrose, Dunkeld, Bankfoot, Newtonhill, Portlethen, Alyth and Coupar Angus to identify postcodes where the majority of properties are able to place an order and get them added to our API systems and maps. In the past, the announcements have often been early, so we have only found a small number of Ready for Service, with the footprint growing over the coming months.
UPDATE 18/06/2026 12:15
GoFibre have issued a correction to indicate that the seven listed locations are NOT ready for service as was indicated by the original press release, but now advises that they are planned to be ready soon. The quote has also been updated to reflect this:

A minor oops then on the press release, but mistakes happen 🙂
