Ofcom has today announced it is proposing to apply code powers to SICOM Limited. As usual it is required to consult for a one-month period however this is effectively a waiting period in most cases.
Code powers refers to statutory rights granted to operator of electronic communications networks under Section 107(6) of the Communications Act 2003 and give companies the right to install and maintain infrastructure on streets with reduced bureaucracy, access private land for the same (and under some favourable conditions) and exempt them from some planning restrictions, something which can upset residents on occasions when it comes to siting of telegraph poles.
