Quantum Communications Ltd applies for code powers

Quantum Fibre already has some full-fibre footprint in Lincolnshire, but the application for code powers will make further roll-out be it commercial or Gigabit voucher led to be simpler.

Ofcom is consulting on giving Quantum Communications Ltd code powers. Code powers allows a broadband operator to skip a chunk of the generally slow planning processes and deploy communications infrastructure on public land and highways. In cases where the work impinges on footpaths and roads the applications to the body responsible for the highway still need to take place to ensure that you don’t end up with a scenario where a village is totally cut off due to road works.

The footprint we know about for Quantum Fibre is currently just in Lincolnshire, but the application hints at a wider roll-out to adjoining counties. For those worried that this will mean duplication of infrastructure Quantum Communications Ltd is indicating it intends to use the Openreach pole and duct sharing products (PIA) where it is possible to do so.
