Ofcom to release radio spectrum for mobile broadband

Ofcom has released a consultation on the liberalisation of the 900MHz and 1800MHz radio spectrum, currently used by mobile operators for 2G GSM services, to be redployed particularly to encourage mobile broadband growth.

The Science and Technology Committee of the House of Lords has published a report on Personal Internet Security which makes recommendations about the role of service providers versus individuals in ensuring the Internet remains a safe place for its users. Its key recommendation is that the responsibility for security cannot remain solely with the end user.

Ofcom proposal to require VoIP providers to offer ‘999’ service

Ofcom has this morning announced a consultation on requiring VoIP operators (i.e. companies offering telephone calls via the Internet) to offer access to the emergency services via the '999' operator in the same way as on standard land lines.
