Residents of a village near Great Cransley, Kettering in Northamptonshire using alt-net Gigaclear's full fibre service have been without broadband for almost a week now due to a fibre break taking the village offline.

With the pace of the many broadband roll-outs identifying the slowest places is a puzzle that keeps changing as you assemble it, but Broadband Genie is the latest trying to highlight slow streets.

The pace of the full-fibre roll-outs and future plans analysed by Ofcom suggest that if all the plans are delivered FTTP will be available to 91% of the UK by May 2026.

The UK has nudged the level of full-fibre coverage from 56% to 57% in a period of 30 days and if we can keep finding more newly built network at the same pace as the last nine months will reach 85% in August 2025.

A slightly slower pace for the increase of FTTP availability across the UK was seen in the last month, but the build pace is still massively better than the snail like pace of three or four years ago.

The less competitive parts of the UK continue to close in on large competitive areas, but it will be a few years before the gap closes to just a few points difference when looking at the Gigabit availability.

Oswestry has widespread availability of FTTP from Openreach or Full Fibre Ltd already but a cluster of few streets were targetted by Freedom Fibre who after objections are consulting residents on the way forward.

The full-fibre roll-outs continue at pace with the transition from 55% to 56% taking 23 days. If that pace were to be sustained for the next twelve months we could be reporting 71% FTTP coverage in September 2024.

Ofcom has confirmed what we said back in April, which is that 50% of UK homes can now access a full fibre service. The roll-outs have not stopped and for homes as of 26th August FTTP coverage was 55.66%.

Again its time for our monthly summary comparing all the nations and regions across the UK. It is still amazing to think that over half the UK now has access to a full fibre option and 1 in 8 properties already have a choice of two different physical FTTP networks.
