May 2024 update on broadband coverage in Ofcom Area 2 and Area 3

The more urban Ofcom Area 2 where lots of full-fibre competition was expected is showing 21.7% of premises with 2 or more options, but Area 3 which was expected to have less competition is still doing well with 18.5% of premises having 2 or more different FTTP networks available.

66% of UK properties now have a full-fibre broadband option available

25 days after hitting the 65% full fibre coverage mark we are passing the 66% point for the UK and are on the way to reaching 85% FTTP coverage in August 2025.

April 2024 update on broadband availability across the UK, nations and regions

The full-fibre roll-outs continue at a decent pace due to the fact that the market is not just a handful of players, but a broad market of 100+ different networks. If the pace can be maintained we could be looking at moving from just shy of 66% FTTP coverage to 85% in August 2025.

There was some surprise expressed at Connected North by if we recall correctly Brian Potterill of Ofcom at the amount of full-fibre competition happening in the Area 3 parts of the UK.

INCA report indicated alt-net footprint matching Openreach FTTP roll-out

The UK full-fibre roll-outs are amazingly still running at a higher rate than the superfast roll-outs a decade ago and a lot of that is rather than just one provider in the form of Openreach we have a massively competitive market of over 100 different networks.

March 2024 update on broadband availability across the UK, nations and regions

Time for our monthly summary of where the various nations and regions of the UK stand with regard to the full-fibre roll-outs. One observation to share is that while we are busier than ever tracking down the many FTTP footprints the overall roll-out pace does now seem to be slowing down.
